Markets Count! Collecting, Tracking & Using Your Farmers Market Data

Collecting and leveraging data about individual markets and the "farmers market sector" as a whole are urgently needed to:

  • Better understand market trends, organizational success, and new ways to serve markets;
  • Develop strategies, set goals, monitor and document economic, community and environmental impacts; and
  • Powerfully communicate with the public, policy makers, funders, and other stakeholders.

This page is a step towards making the data collection job realistic, doable and meaningful for market managers, advocates and researchers.

"Market Vitals" Pilot Project
A list of 12 "vital statistics" that even a one-manager market can collect, are meaningful, and can be aggregated with other markets by county or state. Developed in Fall 2010 by market managers for markets to voluntarily pilot in the season 2011.

Forms Bank
Managing information is a big job in any farmers market. The "Forms Bank" offers the examples and templates on annual planning and reporting; vendor applications and market policies; market day forms; and season-to-season tracking.
