Story

King County Metro Transit is teaming up with the city of Duvall to offer local residents a new way of sharing a ride.

Meet Duvall Community Van – a pilot project that will allow residents to share a ride around town – whether it’s to the grocery store or a special local event. The service debuts April 23 – a great way to celebrate Earth Days.

Community Van is the latest in a series of unique alternative services Metro is piloting in communities throughout King County. These services are designed to provide residents with customized options for getting around when fixed route bus service can’t meet their needs.

The community van will be easy to use. Metro is supplying two vans for the program. All drivers and riders need to do is contact the city’s transportation coordinator or go online to find a pre-scheduled trip to share a ride to local destinations or see requested trips that have been posted by others. Riders can even suggest a designation they know is popular with their friends and neighbors. Trips must have at least two passengers in addition to the volunteer driver. Each rider will pay a one-zone Metro fare while the driver travels free.

Right now, the program is recruiting both drivers and riders interested in sharing a ride. Over time, Metro and the city of Duvall think the number of trips will grow, giving riders more opportunities to share a ride to all sorts of destinations.
