Fairwood
The western portion of the original Fairwood potential annexation area (PAA), known as the Benson Hill Communities, annexed to the City of Renton effective March 1, 2008.
The remaining Fairwood PAA is located to the east of the City of Renton and extends to the Urban Growth Boundary.
Status updates
Fairwood
The Washington State Boundary Review Board for King County (BRB) approved the City of Renton’s notice of intent to annex the Fairwood potential annexation area (PAA) effective April 8, 2010. The appeal period closed on May 10, 2010. Residents of the Fairwood PAA then had the opportunity to vote on whether they wanted to join the City of Renton on the November 2, 2010 ballot. That ballot measure failed to garner enough votes for passage and residents of Fairwood remain urban unincorporated area residents. King County will continue to work with residents and the city to provide the information necessary for informed decisions about the future governance of the Fairwood PAA.
Benson Hill Communities
On November 6, 2007, citizens living within the boundaries of the proposed Benson Hill Communities annexation area voted to join the City of Renton. The City of Renton annexed this community on March 1, 2008.
