M Street trunk repair

King County has repaired a section of corroded pipe at the intersection of M Street NE and 2nd Street NE in Auburn.

Completed – Spring 2020

Project description

To protect public health and the environment, the King County Wastewater Treatment Division has repaired a section of pipe at the intersection of M Street NE and 2nd Street NE in Auburn. This pipe, called the M Street Trunk, was built around the 1950s and a section that was corroded by the hydrogen sulfide produced from wastewater was repaired. Wastewater from south King County is collected by local cities and sewer districts and flows to the county’s South Treatment Plant in Renton.

What to expect

Construction to repair the pipe required an open cut in the road that temporarily closed the intersection of M Street NE and 2nd Street NE. Sewage diversion pipes were temporarily installed above ground to allow flows to bypass the section of pipe being repaired and reenter the sewer system at a maintenance hole on 2nd Street NE between M Street and N Street.
