King County and partners surpass goal of planting one million trees, achieving a major milestone for climate action one year early
A partnership created by King County has surpassed the goal of planting one million trees throughout the region nearly a year ahead of schedule, achieving a milestone set by Executive Dow Constantine in the 2015 Strategic Climate Action Plan.

Regional public sector employers extend teleworking until 2021
King, Pierce, and Snohomish Counties, the cities of Everett, Kenmore, Redmond, Seattle, Shoreline, and Tacoma, and the Port of Seattle and Port of Everett jointly announced they will all extend teleworking policies for eligible employees until January 2021 to help prevent spread of COVID-19.

King County distributing free face coverings in Shoreline on July 28
Free face coverings will be available for King County residents on Tuesday July 28 at the Shoreline District Court Facility in Shoreline. During the drive-through event King County residents can receive 2 masks per person for up to six people per household or up to 12 masks per vehicle.

In the first regional distribution event, King County to give away face coverings in Federal Way on July 21
Free face coverings will be available for King County residents on Tuesday July 21 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way. During the drive-through event King County residents can receive 2 masks per person, per household, up to 12 masks per vehicle.

King County partners with King County Library System to distribute face coverings to community and faith-based organizations
King County and the King County Library System are teaming up to get cloth and disposable face coverings and hand sanitizer in the hands of residents by partnering with close to 650 community and faith-based organizations around the county.

Executive Constantine thanks Metro GM Rob Gannon as he accepts role as Missoula CFO
King County Executive Dow Constantine thanked King County Metro General Manager Rob Gannon for his service as he steps down at the end of July to take a position in Montana. Deputy General Manager Terry White will serve as Interim General Manager starting August 1. White began his Metro career in 1987 and currently oversees all Metro Operations, including bus, rail, and marine service; facilities; and vehicle maintenance.

Supporting local farms: Get fresh produce, berries, flowers, cheese and more using King County’s new Local Food Finder
King County’s new Local Food Finder interactive map offers a convenient way for residents to support local farms hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic that has disrupted farmers markets and restaurant sales. Residents can have fresh food and flowers delivered from local farms or place an online order for pick up directly at the farm.

New park with trails coming to urban unincorporated King County, delivering on Executive Constantine’s commitment to equitable access to open space
King County will work with partners to transform recently acquired property in urban unincorporated North Highline into a much-needed forest park. It's the latest milestone for the Land Conservation Initiative that Executive Dow Constantine launched in 2018.

Point-in-Time count estimates a 5 percent increase in people experiencing homelessness, newly updated data dashboards reveal more people receiving shelter and services
The 2020 Point-in-Time Count for Seattle/King County found 11,751 people experiencing homelessness on one night in January, with 53 percent sheltered and 47 percent unsheltered. The total reflects a five percent increase compared to the 2019 Count. Newly updated data dashboards show numbers of most populations seeking homelessness services have remained steady over the past three years, while veteran and youth and young adult homelessness continue to see reductions.
