King County Veterans Program offers aid to Coast Guard personnel and local veterans in need as federal shutdown continues
King County is stepping forward to help local service members in the U.S. Coast Guard and their families as they continue to provide critical support to the region and the nation without receiving paychecks. Financial aid for housing and other essentials is now available, and impacted retired veterans and local veterans who are furloughed federal employees are also encouraged to apply for assistance.

A unified campaign to stop labor and sex trafficking, bringing a successful approach to a regional scale
King County, Port of Seattle, City of Seattle, Sound Transit, Alaska Airlines, and Delta Air Lines are launching a public awareness campaign encouraging victims and survivors of human trafficking to get the help they need, expanding a previous effort that dramatically increased the number of people who called the national hotline for resources, including medical care, financial assistance, and housing.

Update: King County shelter and day center openings schedule
King County will open a new day center at 4th Avenue and Jefferson Street by the end of January. Enhanced 24/7 shelter will open in the West Wing of the King County Correctional Facility in March, along with modular dorms at a former Metro parking lot in SODO. King County involved people who have experienced homelessness and other community members to help develop programs and services at these locations.
