Story

King County Metro Transit crews will be rebuilding the overhead electric trolley bus wires on the University Bridge during the next two weekends, and while the bridge will stay open to vehicle traffic, the drawbridge will not open to tall marine vessels from 10 p.m. Saturday, July 12, to 8 a.m. Sunday, July 13.

The same restrictions are planned Saturday, July 19, into Sunday, July 20.

The work is needed to maintain the power wires across the bridge that serve the busy electric trolley bus service that travels Eastlake Avenue in Seattle south of the University of Washington.

Crews plan to work until 10 a.m. each Sunday, but accommodations will be made for tall vessels that request the drawbridge open after 8 a.m. each Sunday.

During the work, bus service will not be affected as diesel buses will instead operate on the routes crossing the University Bridge. Drivers might experience some traffic delays as a single lane closes overnight to make room for work crews and equipment.
