Labor Day schedules for buses, water taxis

Labor Day weekend is packed with lots of events in Seattle, and King County Metro Transit

has buses on the street to carry tens of thousands of riders to Bumbershoot at Seattle Center, PAX Prime gaming at the Convention Center and the inaugural football game at the new Husky Stadium. On the Monday holiday, buses and water taxis will have altered schedules and riders should plan ahead.

Riders should plan extra time for heavy traffic and possible transit delays, and take an earlier bus to make it to destinations with time enough to get to concerts and the big kickoff.

Bumbershoot Aug. 30-Sept. 2

While there is no special shuttle or extra transit service for this weekend’s Bumbershoot festival, riding Metro is still a great way to get there. Many regularly scheduled transit routes go to or near Seattle Center.

Metro routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 13, 24, 32, 33 and the RapidRide D Line serve Seattle Center. Routes 5, 16, 26, 28, 40 and 358 travel to within a few blocks of the festival. A valid fare is required on all Metro service.

Metro’s online Trip Planner helps riders plan transit trips to and from Bumbershoot at Seattle Center and other events and locations. Metro’s Service Advisories page lists known service exceptions that may affect trips. Additional information is available in the Destination and Neighborhood pages.

Husky shuttles Aug. 31

Metro will operate game day non-stop shuttle buses to Husky Stadium from the Eastgate Park-and-Ride, Federal Way/South 320th Park-and-Ride, Houghton Park-and-Ride, Kingsgate Park-and-Ride, Northgate Transit Center, Shoreline Park-and-Ride, South Kirkland Park-and-Ride and South Renton Park-and-Ride.

Due to construction, parking at the South Kirkland Park-and-Ride will be limited for the Aug. 31 game, and the Houghton Park-and-Ride also fills up fast. Riders are advised to arrive early or use the Kingsgate Park-and-Ride.

Pre-game Park-and-Ride shuttle service: Shuttles leave the parking areas starting 2 1/2 half hours prior to kickoff as they fill, with the last buses from each area leaving approximately 40 minutes before kick-off. While every effort is made to accommodate all Husky Shuttle customers, fans are encouraged to allow plenty of time to get to the games, due to expected traffic and congestion at and near Husky Stadium. Riders who miss the Park-and-Ride shuttles can ride regularly scheduled service, but may not get to the stadium by kick-off time. A transfer may be required.

Fares: A $5 round trip ticket – purchased at the Park-and-Rides prior to boarding – is required on Husky Park-and-Ride shuttles. Game tickets, passes, transfers, ORCA cards and UPASS are not accepted on the Park-and-Ride shuttles. A valid regular fare is required on all regularly scheduled service. Game tickets are not accepted as fare on any service.

Post-game park-and-ride shuttle locations: A map of post-game shuttle locations shows where to board buses will to return to park-and-ride lots. Shuttle buses leave immediately after the end of the game as they fill. The last bus to depart from each location leaves 30 minutes after the end of the game. Husky park-and-ride shuttles are designated by colored signs in their front and side windows and depart from the following locations:

Visit Metro’s Service Advisories page for additional Husky game day P&R Shuttle information.

Regularly scheduled transit service: Also on all Husky game days, Metro bus routes 31, 44, 65, 68, 75 and 271 will be rerouted near Husky Stadium, due to traffic congestion associated with UW Husky football games. These routes have both pre- and post-game service revisions, but still serve the University area.  Fans are reminded to expect heavy game-day traffic and related delays in the University area.

Labor Day, Monday Sept. 2

Metro buses will operate on Sunday schedules Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Schedules also will change for King County Water Taxi service. The Vashon route of the King County Water Taxi will not operate on Monday, and the West Seattle Water Taxi will be on a Sunday schedule. See the Water Taxi website for schedule information.
