Summer youth program
This summer, anybody 18 years and younger with an ORCA Youth card gets to ride Metro transit for only 50¢!
That’s right! Rides for only 50¢ on King County Metro buses from June 17 to September 4. Plus, reduced fares of only 50¢ on the Seattle Streetcar and $1 on Link light rail, Sound Transit buses, and Sounder trains during the same time period.
How the special summer youth fare works
If you have an ORCA Youth card, your card’s e-purse will only be charged the 50¢ or $1 fare instead of $1.50 (the normal youth fare) during the promotional period. If you like to ride a lot, your best option is a monthly pass on Metro, that’s only $18 for an entire month’s of unlimited rides!

Frequently asked questions
You can use your new ORCA card on all major modes of public transportation in the Puget Sound region. However, the summer promotional fares are only good on Metro buses (not Access or the King County Water Taxi), Sound Transit and the Seattle Streetcar.
Check the back of your card. If you see text that says “ORCA Summer Youth Program,” your card will convert to an adult card on October 1, 2017. If your card does not have the promotional text on the back side it will remain a youth card until you turn 19.
If you have a card that converts to an adult card on October 1, you can bring it to the Metro Pass Sales office located at 201 S. Jackson Street, Seattle during business hours, and we will exchange it for an ORCA Youth card registered in your name that expires on your 19th birthday, for free. If you have money left on your ORCA card, we can also transfer it to your new ORCA Youth card.
Note that any regular youth ORCA card converts to an adult card on the cardholder’s 19th birthday and the card can continue to be used by that person at the adult fare.
ORCA cards distributed by K-12 schools generally expire at the end of each school year. This ORCA Summer Youth Promotion enables you to get a free ORCA Youth card that would let you keep riding during the summer at the lowest fare. Youth riders who pay cash will pay the usual $1.50 youth fare rather than the special summer fare, so having an ORCA Youth card will save you money.
If you receive a card through your school at the beginning of the school year, you will want to use that card because it covers unlimited free rides.
No. You can only receive the reduced youth fare when using your ORCA Youth card. You need to load E-purse value or a pass on your card to take advantage of the low fares. Load funds at participating retailer store locations, ORCA vending machines at every Link light rail station, the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel stations, and at Metro’s Pass Sales offices. If you pay with cash, cash, the normal $1.50 youth fare will apply.
Yes. You will receive the reduced fares when using any current ORCA Youth card. So, if you already have your own ORCA Youth card registered to you, there’s no need to order another card to take advantage of this promotion. The reduced fares are only in effect during the promotional period of June 17 – September 4.

Yes, you can go to the "Have a card" page on the ORCA card website. You will have the option to login to manage your card, create a "My ORCA login" or add value to an unregistered card.
If you're adding value to an unregistered card you’ll be asked to enter in your card’s serial number and verification number (both are located on the front of the card).
Once those steps are completed, you are free to add E-purse and/or a monthly pass. With E-purse, you can add as little as $5 and as much as $300 to your card. Monthly passes (called Puget Pass) are available in denominations that match your typical trip value. If you ride Metro, you’ll want to buy the $0.50 Puget Pass which is $18 for unlimited rides during the month. Remember that when you add E-purse or a pass to your card online that it takes 24-48 hours to process before it will appear on your card.
