What You'll Need

  • Federal Firearms License (current AND valid)
  • State Business License (indicating valid UBI and Dealer/Owner name)
  • WA state driver’s license or ID card with a photograph
  • Check or money order for $125 (made payable to "Washington State Treasurer")

As part of the application process, you will be fingerprinted. There is also a 30 day waiting period to complete the criminal history background check before the license is issued. The license will be mailed to you.

Fees and Payment

The $125 fee may be paid by personal check or money order, made payable to the Washington State Treasurer.  Please be advised that the King County Sheriff's Office does not directly process this payment.  The payment is sent directly to the Washington State Treasurer with their copy of your license.  Please note that we do not accept cash or third party checks, and are unable to process payment by debit or credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, etc).

Payment Requirements:

  • Checks must be preprinted, and match either the applicant's name or the name of the business.

Renewal

There is no renewal for a Firearms Dealer License. A new application must be submitted each year, and you must be fingerprinted and undergo a background check with each application.

Note: Be sure to submit your application more than 30 days before the expiration of your current license to ensure you receive your new license before the current one expires.
