Man tries to stop robbery and is shot and killed


Early this morning deputies were called to a shooting and when they arrived they found a 51 y/o male with a single gunshot wound to the chest. Medics arrived and treated the male but were unsuccessful. The male died of his injuries. Witnesses described the suspect as a B/M wearing a red mask, dark colored hoodie, and dark shorts. Deputies established a perimeter for K9 to track the suspect but were unable to capture him.


White Center: A 51y/o male is dead after trying to prevent a robbery and detectives are investigating the shooting that occurred overnight.


This morning at about 1:15am deputies were called to the area of SW 106 ST and 14 Ave SW to a report of a man who had been shot.  When deputies arrived, they secured the scene for aid who began working on the victim.  Medics were not able to save the victim who was shot once in the chest. 


Witnesses reported that the shooting suspect fled on foot.  A perimeter was set up, and a K9 tracked south but was unsuccessful in locating the shooter.  The suspect was described as a black male wearing a dark hoodie, shorts, and a red mask. 


The original robbery victim was not on scene when deputies arrived and it is unknown if he was injured.  Detectives do not know if there is a relationship between the original robbery victim and the shooting victim or if they were strangers.  Detectives also believe there is only one suspect involved in this shooting.  Detectives are continuing to interview witnesses in an effort to understand what happened and why.
