The Special Support Enforcement Unit (SSEU) began in January of 1999 and was originally supported with funds from Local, State and Federal funding.  Beginning January 1, 2010 the Unit became 100% funded by State and Federal Funding.  It was also on this date that the Unit was reduced to two detectives from the original four assigned to do this work. 

This Unit works in partnership with DSHS (Division of Child Support) and the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Family Support Division.

SSEU is comprised of a part-time sergeant, two Detectives, and one Administrative Specialist III.

The Warrant process begins when DSHS/DCS refers a case to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office – Family Support Division.  When a non-custodial parent owing child support fails to follow the court ordered conditions then the following occurs:

• The King County Prosecuting Attorney (Family Support Division) files an Order for Warrant with King County Superior Court
• A King County Superior Court Judge signs the “Order for Warrant”
• The warrant is sent to the King County Sheriff’s Office
• A detective will locate the non custodial parent and take them into custody for the warrant
