Order copies of King County recorded documents.

King County Archives holds historical recorded documents dated from 1853 to July 31, 1991. Documents that were recorded after July 31, 1991, and all plat maps are available from the King County Recorder's Office.

RECORDED PROPERTY DOCUMENTS

MILITARY DISCHARGE (DD-214) DOCUMENTS

MARRIAGE LICENSE CERTIFICATES

Marriage certificates are available from the King County Recorder's Office (external link). You can visit the Recorder's Office in person to obtain a copy the same day, or you can call, email, or mail in a request.

You can also order a downloadable, digitally certified copy of your marriage license certificate (before 2017) through the Washington State Digital Archives (external link). The certificate will be sent to you via email, and you can print a copy.

   

MARRIAGE LICENSE APPLICATIONS

A marriage application is a document filed before the ceremony. It does not prove that you were married. To a order a copy of a marriage application dated between 1989 and 2013, please call the Archives at (206) 263-2480 or send us an email. Please contact the King County Recorder's Office to order a copy of a marriage application dated after 2013.

PRE-1989 APPLICATIONS

Prior to 1989, marriage applications were not categorized as archival records according to the Washington State Records Retention Schedule so they weren't retained. Please call the Archives at 206-263-2480 or send us an email if you need a letter stating that information.
