They help to preserve life and property by preventing and controlling fires and fire hazards with compliance to adopted Fire Codes and standards for fire and life safety. We administer the permit. You may also refer to Title 17* and Title 27* of the King County Code for the legal authority.

We are responsible for the intake and issuance of fire permit applications. The materials needed for a fire system permit application are listed below, or permit application packages can be mailed to you upon request by calling us. Please mail or drop off your application at the Permitting Department cashier's office with the appropriate fees:

  • Standpipe
  • Water main extensions
  • Underground sprinkler supply lines
  • Fire hydrant installation
  • Flammable and combustible liquid storage tanks
  • LPG tanks
  • Generators
  • Flammable liquid spray booths
  • Flow coaters
  • Fiber-glassing equipment
  • Solvent distillation equipment for recycling solvents
  • High piled storage.

Fees are assessed based on the type of permit. The fire system & tank permit fee sheet information see Guide 05 PDF .

When submitting a fire system permit application, include a check for the total projected fee based on the fee sheet. Make checks payable to the King County Office of Finance. Any fees not paid upon application will be due at time of issuance.
