What is the purpose of a code interpretation?

A code interpretation request allows anyone to formally apply to King County for a written code interpretation of development regulations. An interpretation may be requested for a specific development proposal, as part of a code enforcement case, or for the general application of a specific King County Code section.

We are responsible for administering Titles 16, 17, 19A, 20, 21A, and 23 of the King County Code. A request to interpret a code not administered by us should be made to the department that administers that code. Contact customer service at 206-296-6600 with questions
