Your rights and responsibilities

King County offers Paid Parental Leave (PPL) to qualifying County employees. King County employees (both male and female) can receive up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave following the birth, adoption, or foster-to-adopt placement of a child. Employees have to be employed with King County for a minimum of six months prior to the event (child birth, adoption, child placement) to qualify for PPL. Contact DAJD Human Resources at 206-477-2400 to discuss PPL and your eligibility.

The Paid Parental Leave facts will provide detailed information regarding this benefit.

Information specific to DAJD includes the ability of pregnant Correction Officers, Sergeants and Captain's to also use their short term disability benefits (STD) while off on a pregnancy related leave. Please contact Human Resources at 206-477-2400 to discuss how you can coordinate your paid and unpaid leave with minimal impact to your seniority, service retirement accruals and county paid benefits.
