Diseases from reptiles and amphibians

Reptiles (turtles, snakes, anoles, iguanas, geckos, and chameleons) and amphibians (frogs, salamanders, newts, toads) frequently carry Salmonella bacteria in their intestines. Even though the reptile usually doesn't appear ill, the infection can spread to people. Illness is most severe in young children and people with weakened immune systems.
