Waste reduction and recycling (level one)
- After initiating a lunchtime recycling program, Cedar Heights increased its recycling rate from 29 percent to 44 percent and reduced the number of garbage containers from eight to two.
- Assistant principal Julie Lynch-Allen made frequent lunch announcements about reducing waste and recycling.
- Teacher Leigh-Ann Lunde’s leadership class created 3-D posters showing what can and can’t be recycled.
- Leadership students volunteered as lunchroom recycling monitors.
- Students created a video during spring 2013 to introduce incoming students to Cedar Heights’ recycling practices in the fall.
- To reduce paper use, staff members used scrap paper notepads and email instead of printing paper.
