Note: This new school also completed Levels One and Two in 2011-12.

Waste reduction and recycling (level one)

  • Big Picture School has a recycling rate of 50 percent.

Water conservation (level three)

  • Students went on a field trip to the Cedar River Watershed.
  • The green team used the water conservation resource tub materials from City of Bellevue.
  • Students placed “turn water off” stickers by sinks throughout the school.
  • Students put up posters throughout the school to promote water conservation.
  • To raise awareness about conserving water at school and at home, announcements were made during school assemblies.
  • Staff increased awareness about water conservation during lunches.
  • The Green Team challenged students to bring water in reusable containers and to drink all their water instead of buying bottled water and wasting it.
  • The Green Team held four raffles for students who brought their own reusable water container.
  • Sixth graders took a field trip to Brightwater Waste Water Treatment and Education Center and heard presentations from staff.
