WHEREAS, King County recognizes the natural environment as the foundation of a healthy society and a strong economy; and

WHEREAS, in its role as a regional government, King County has established the King County-Cities Climate Collaboration to create a specific package of joint commitments to meet state and local targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions; and

WHEREAS, King County has implemented effective policies on land use, public transportation, environmental management, and economic development to stimulate climate-friendly fuel and technology markets; and

WHEREAS, King County provides tools and resources to help residents combat climate change through offering energy-conscious choices, promoting the use of renewable energy, making homes energy efficient, and spotlighting alternative sources of fuel and methods of transportation; and

WHEREAS, with care in how we use energy and water, investments in transit and trails, and small changes in our daily habits, we can forge a sustainable future for King County – even as we experience one of the highest growth rates in the nation; and

WHEREAS, the 45th annual Earth Day celebration and King County’s “Easy Being Green” campaign this year showcase how simple earth-friendly actions can unleash a positive wave of change;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Dow Constantine, Executive of King County, do hereby proclaim April 22, 2015 to be

Earth Action Day

in King County. I encourage all residents to join me in celebrating the earth, as we continue to build a thriving community of residents empowered for environmental protection.
