Commercial COVID Impact

If you believe your commercial property value has been impacted by COVID-19, we want to hear from you. Your input on COVID-19 impacts will help us do a better job of setting values for the 2021 assessment year (taxes payable in 2022).

We have launched an online portal, https://www.kingcounty.gov/COVID-value-review allowing commercial property taxpayers to report impacts to their businesses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic to assist the Assessor’s office in setting accurate property valuations.

The Assessor has been monitoring the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. While residential housing values have remained relatively steady so far, some commercial sectors have had their values impacted.

These changes in value caused by COVID will be reflected in the 2021 assessed value for taxes payable in 2022.

Each year, County Assessors appraise every commercial and residential parcel in the state. These values – set effective as of January 1 by state law – are then applied to the next year’s tax bill. Property values are being set on January 1, 2020, for taxes due in 2021.
