Biography

Judge Thorp joined the King County Superior Court bench on May 1, 2014. She was appointed by Governor Jay Inslee and assumed the position previously occupied by Judge Joan DuBuque, who retired from the bench.

Judge Thorp attended the University of Washington from 1996-1999 where she majored in Political Science, with a minor in Society and Justice. Two days after finishing her undergraduate work, she started law school at Seattle University School of Law. She graduated cum laude from law school in 2002.

After law school Judge Thorp worked with the Attorney General’s Office, Social and Health Services Division, where she litigated child welfare cases in Pierce and Kitsap Counties. She transferred to the Seattle office in the same position in 2006. In 2012 she transferred to the Labor and Industries Division, where she handled worker safety cases in Washington’s oil refineries.

Judge Thorp is an executive board member for the Loren Miller Bar Association where she chairs both the Young Lawyer Committee and the Mentorship Committee. She works to encourage diversity in the legal profession and collaboration among all minority bar associations.
