Council Chair Phillips encouraged by President Obama’s “bold action” on climate change

Summary

“Climate change poses immediate threats to the resources, beauty, and security of our County. I am encouraged to see the bold action taken by our President and look forward to continuing work to combat climate change at the County level.”

Story

Metropolitan King County Council Chair Larry Phillips released this statement today in response to the announcement from President Obama on his proposed steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the nation’s coal-burning power plants:

“I applaud the President’s action limiting carbon emissions from power plants, the single biggest source of harmful carbon pollution contributing to climate change. Currently, the King County Council is considering an update of our Strategic Climate Action Plan to ensure that by 2025, all electricity supplied for County government operations is greenhouse gas emissions neutral and derived from renewable sources.

“Climate change poses immediate threats to the resources, beauty, and security of our County. I am encouraged to see the bold action taken by our President and look forward to continuing work to combat climate change at the County level.”
