Phillips applauds special session on transportation package Boeing 777X assembly

Summary

Story

Metropolitan King County Councilmember Larry Phillips, Chair of the Council’s Transportation, Economy, and Environment Committee, provided the following statement on Governor Jay Inslee’s call for a special session of the state Legislature to pass an incentive package including transportation investments to land the assembly of the Boeing 777X airplane in Washington:

“I applaud Governor Inslee’s leadership in calling for a special session on the economic future of Washington State. Passing a statewide transportation package that includes local transit funding options is critical for growing jobs at Boeing and employers across Washington. That is why, at the conclusion of their special session in June, I called on the State Legislature to reconvene this year to address the critical transportation needs of our state including the devastating impending cuts to Metro Transit service.

“We need a transportation system that keeps pace with job and population growth in order to maintain a high quality of life and economic competitive. I hope in the coming days the Legislature will keep in mind that cutting transit service and letting our highway and road network deteriorate is the wrong direction for Boeing, King County, and Washington.”
