Emergency Preparedness
Vision: A community resilient to the health impacts of disasters.
Our mission is to promote and ensure the health and safety of the whole community before, during, and after emergencies and disasters. But we can't do it alone. Here's how you can help keep yourself and your community safe during and after an emergency.
Be prepared for public health emergencies and dangers
Learn what to do in the event of disaster such as flooding, power outages, carbon monoxide poisoning, hypothermia and more.
Take action: volunteer with the Public Health Reserve Corps
The Public Health Reserve Corps (PHRC) is a medical reserve corps which bridges gaps in access to care prior to and during emergencies by delivering compassionate care to King County's most vulnerable residents. Reserve Corps volunteers deliver care in non-traditional settings like tiny home villages, shelters, health fairs, and community centers.
Emergency preparedness planning and response
The Preparedness Section is responsible for maintaining emergency response plans that describe and guide the department’s response activities within the scope of Emergency Support Function #8: Public Health and Medical Services. We also rely on other preparedness professionals and organizations, including the Northwest Healthcare Response Network and city and county emergency managers, to coordinate and share resources and information during a response.
Community Resilience + Equity coordinates countywide preparedness efforts with a wide variety of community partners. The team includes a diverse cross section of staff with public health expertise in vulnerable populations, preparedness and infectious diseases.
