We rely on the public to help us identify illegal dumpsites on the road right-of-way. When you let us know about an illegal dumpsite, we're able to quickly coordinate a clean-up response. Illegal dumpsites can attract rats, are dangerous to children, can pollute our rivers and streams, and may contaminate wells. And if they're not cleaned-up quickly, illegal dumpsites often invite more illegal dumping.
In addition to public health, safety and environmental costs, illegal dumping has financial costs. In 2004, the Road Services Division spent approximately $325,000 in illegal dumping response and clean-up costs.
You can report illegal dumping in King County one of two ways:
Convened by King County Executive Ron Sims in March 2003, the Illegal Dumping Task Force was charged with improving customer service and coordinating the use of King County resources more efficiently. The task force developed four key recommendations to better serve county residents and our environment, which were approved by King County Executive Sims on Feb. 23, 2004.
