The Interlocal Cooperation Act (RCW 39.34), which became state law in 1967, allows local governments to cooperate with other jurisdictions to provide services to mutual advantage. Under this authority, the King County Road Services Division provides road-related services to 29 jurisdictions in and around King County. The Road Services Division began providing services to contract cities as a wave of incorporations and annexations swept the county in the early and mid 1990s. What began as a short-term response to assist newly incorporated cities has evolved into a line of business that the Roads Division is proud to offer.
