June 26, 2009 TRANSIT ALERT: Marathon will impact bus service on Saturday, June 27Many streets from Tukwila to Seattle will be closed on Saturday, June 27 for the Seattle Rock ‘n Roll Marathon. The closures will result in disruptions for dozens of Metro Transit bus routes. The street closures are extensive because the event has overlapping courses for the 25,000 runners participating in the marathon and half marathon. Some of the affected bus routes have multiple reroutes starting and ending at different times as the bulk of the runners move through different areas of the course. The marathon-related disruptions will involve areas south of Boeing Field, on Beacon Hill, in the Rainier Valley, along the southeast shore of Lake Washington, on the Interstate 90 express lanes, the Alaskan Way Viaduct and State Route 99, and in the Sodo area near Qwest Field. Because of the wide-ranging course, Metro service is expected to be severely disrupted west of Lake Washington from Fremont to Tukwila starting at 4 a.m. and lasting until late in the afternoon on Saturday, when all participants have cleared the course. Many buses will be rerouted around closed streets, and all transit service in these areas is expected to be delayed. There are also other events going on in the Seattle area this weekend that will result in closed streets and traffic congestion. The Greenwood Car Show is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and will close Greenwood Avenue North from 72nd Street to 87th Street in North Seattle. The Pride Parade will take place Sunday starting at 11 a.m. on Fourth Avenue from Union Street to Denny Way. For specific route-by-route information about transit disruptions, visit Metro Online and look for reroute information.
