King County brings down the roof ... to the road
King County is testing a program to recycle old asphalt roofing shingles into new pavement for roads. This week, the joint effort between the Solid Waste Division and the Road Services Division becomes a reality, as two miles of roadway near Enumclaw are repaved with the recycled material.

More bus-light rail connections roll out Saturday
Starting Saturday, Sept. 19, transit customers will have more choices for their daily travel, as Sound Transit and King County Metro Transit team up to provide better connections between bus service and the Link light rail stations in southeast Seattle and Tukwila.

King County requests $99 million in federal funding to rebuild failing South Park Bridge
King County is making a final major push to secure critical funding for the costly replacement of the 78-year-old South Park Bridge over the Duwamish River. If construction funds to replace the bridge cannot be secured, the bridge will be closed in 2010 due to its extreme deterioration.

ORCA makes big splash in regional transit scene
This week, ORCA – One Regional Card for All – will be expanding to more bus, train and ferry riders around the region. The limited rollout period for ORCA is now complete, and the seven partner agencies are launching major promotional efforts and moving forward with steps to phase out other transit passes.

First phase of project to improve intersection between Woodinville and Duvall is complete
Last Friday (Aug. 28), the King County Road Services Division finished the first phase of improvements at the intersection of Woodinville-Duvall Road and 212th Avenue Northeast. A new temporary traffic signal is in place that will allow the intersection to be used until Phase 2 of the project is completed next year.

King County begins work on rural road safety projects near Redmond, Auburn
King County will be improving traffic safety along two road corridors in East and Southeast areas of the county with federal funding from the Rural Safety Innovation Program (RSIP). The $200,000 grant is providing 80 percent of the funding to complete safety improvements on Southeast Lake Holm Road between Auburn and Enumclaw, and along Northeast Novelty Hill Road east of Redmond.

Record heat prompts Metro Transit travel advisory
A prediction of record heat is prompting a warning from King County Metro Transit that many customers will find their bus trips very hot as we head into the afternoon hours.
