ROAD & TRANSIT ALERT
Snow showers, cold weather add up to week of unpredictable travel in King County
Nasty and unpredictable - two words that just about sum up what travel in King County has been like these past few days.
Periodic snow, sleet and freezing rain have been making driving conditions hard to pin down all across the county - and it isn't over yet. The National Weather Service says we may be seeing more snow, rain and slippery roads through mid-week.
Crews from the King County Road Services Division have been dealing with snow and ice on roadways since Saturday, especially in the higher plateau areas of the county. With more snow forecast for north county areas this evening and countywide overnight, the county crews will be on 24/7 operations until the situation improves.
King County Metro Transit advises that bus passengers should also be prepared for travel delays if snow and ice make local roadways slippery.
If travel in your area is impacted by snow and ice Tuesday morning, or is in hilly areas, buses could be on snow reroutes and also delayed by the road conditions. See Metro Online or check paper timetables for pre-established snow routing for specific bus routes. Board buses on flat portions of arterial roads, at park-and-ride lots and transit centers, or other major transfer points.
Passengers are reminded to wait for their bus at the top or the bottom of steep hills, dress warmly for the wait, and be patient. Use your bus route's regularly posted schedule to plan your travel, but be sure to allow plenty of time for your trip and be prepared for possible delays.
Metro appreciates your patience when weather conditions make travel difficult.
