Metro Transit hosts community meetings on RapidRide plans for Pacific Highway South
King County Metro Transit is hosting three open house meetings to solicit community ideas as the agency plans for new RapidRide bus service on Pacific Highway South.
The new streamlined bus service is scheduled to begin in February 2010, and is funded by the Transit Now initiative approved by voters in 2006. This RapidRide line would operate on Pacific Highway South/International Boulevard between South 154th Street in Tukwila and South 316th Street in Federal Way. It is one of five planned RapidRide lines in King County.
Metro’s initial plans call for buses to arrive on the route every 10 minutes during the busiest morning and evening travel hours, and every 15 minutes during midday and evening hours. The new-style buses will have low floors and three doors to speed up boarding, with limited stops to make RapidRide trips faster.
The upcoming open houses for the Pacific Highway South service will be held:
- Wednesday, Nov. 7 from 1-4 p.m. in the Student Union at Highline Community College, 2400 S. 240th St., Des Moines;
- Wednesday, Nov. 7 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the council chambers at SeaTac City Hall, 4800 188th St., SeaTac; and
- Tuesday, Nov. 13 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the council chambers at Federal Way City Hall, 33325 Eighth Ave. S., Federal Way.
At the meetings, people can get more information about RapidRide plans and talk to Metro staff. Comments will be collected at the meetings, or by filling out an online questionnaire. Written comments can be sent to: King County Department of Transportation, Community Relations, KSC-TR-0824, 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle, WA 98104. Or, call to record your comments on a phone message line at (206) 684-1146.
