King County hosts open house on plans for Novelty Hill Road

The King County Road Services Division will host a drop-in open house meeting on Thursday, Nov. 8 to discuss plans and designs to improve Novelty Hill Road and connecting streets east of Redmond.

The meeting will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Bear Creek School gymnasium, 8905 208th Ave. NE, Redmond.

There will be information available at the open house about the Road Division’s preferred alternative for the project, which includes:

  • Widening Novelty Hill Road to four/five lanes from Trilogy Parkway to 196th Avenue Northeast;
  • Rebuilding a section of 196th Avenue Northeast with full shoulders from Novelty Hill Road to Union Hill Road;
  • Extending Northeast 196th Street by about 800 feet to connect with Novelty Hill Road;
  • Widening a section of Union Hill Road to four lanes between 196th Avenue Northeast and 192nd Avenue Northeast.

Now that a preferred alternative has been selected, the county is moving ahead with design work. The Environmental Assessment will be completed in 2008. Construction of the first phase of this project should begin in late 2009. The total project cost is estimated at $79.4 million.

Questions about the open house can be directed to Barbara de Michele, community relations planner by email or phone (206) 263-3792.
