News from King County Department of Transportation Release date: June 29, 2007
Road near Snoqualmie to close for seven weeks
King County will close 396th Drive Southeast north of Snoqualmie for seven weeks to make major repairs. The road will be closed from Monday, July 9 through Thursday, Aug. 23 between Southeast 53rd Street and Southeast 60th Street.
During the closure, the King County Road Services Division will be replacing two deteriorating culverts underneath the roadway. The culverts are showing signs of failure, which could lead to serious problems on the road above them. Also, the pipes have become inaccessible for fish passage, and stormwater is starting to undercut the stream. The new culverts will allow for better local drainage and improve fish passage.
Replacing the old culverts will require a large and deep excavation, so the county will need to fully close 396th Avenue Southeast to complete the work.
During the closure, motorists can detour via Mill Pond Road Southeast, State Route 202 and Southeast Tokul Road. For more information, contact Community Relations Planner Marnie McGrath at (206) 684-1154. Or, visit the project Website.
