News from King County Department of Transportation Release date: June 28, 2007
Hobart road closure begins July 9
King County will close 276th Avenue Southeast in Hobart for seven weeks to make major repairs. The road will be closed from Monday, July 9 through Wednesday, Aug. 22 between Southeast 197th Street and Southeast 200th Street.
During the closure, the King County Road Services Division will be replacing a deteriorating culvert underneath the main road through Hobart – which is also the continuation of the Issaquah-Hobart Road south of State Route 18. The culvert is showing signs of failure, which could lead to serious problems on the road above it. The new culvert will also allow for better local drainage and improve fish passage along a tributary of Carey Creek.
Replacing the old culvert will require a large and deep excavation, so the county will need to fully close 276th Avenue Southeast to complete the work. This project was initially scheduled for the summer of 2006, but the availability of materials and other factors delayed the work. Instead, the division made limited emergency repairs last fall and rescheduled the culvert replacement for this summer.
During the closure, motorists can detour via Southeast 216th Street, 244th Avenue Southeast and SR 18. For more information, contact Community Relations Planner Marnie McGrath at (206) 684-1154.
