King County hosts meeting on proposed roundabout for intersection of SE 304th Street and 124th Avenue SE

The King County Department of Transportation will host a drop-in open house on Tuesday, Aug. 14 for anyone interested in learning more about the county’s plans to build a roundabout at the intersection of Southeast 304th Street and 124th Avenue Southeast near Auburn Mountainview High School.

Construction of the high school and nearby new housing developments has increased traffic using the intersection. A high percentage of the traffic makes left turns, which has resulted in long backups and safety issues particularly during the morning and afternoon commute periods.

The King County Road Services Division plans to begin construction of a roundabout this fall. When completed, the intersection will also have new curbs, gutters, sidewalks and signage. The project cost is approximately $1.5 million, and should take two to three months to complete depending on the weather.

The open house will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Aug. 14 at Rainier Middle School, 30620 116th Ave. SE, Auburn. Those attending can view drawings and plans for the intersection improvements, and talk to project engineers and other county staff.

Find out more about the project online. For information about the open house, call Marnie McGrath, community relations planner, at (206) 684-1154, or email her.
