On Set: Road Services gears up for flood season - The threat of flooding is real every fall and winter in King County. This year, with a compromised Howard Hanson Dam, the Green River Valley is on even higher alert and so is the King County Road Services Division. Roads Division Director Linda Dougherty drops by to explain the effort thus far.

Asphalt shingles paving

Where the roof meets the road - It's part of the effort to eliminate all resource waste by 2030. A lofty goal to be sure, it's a collaboration between the Road Services and Solid Waste Divisions to recycle asphalt shingles. Every year in King County about 17,000 tons of them are generated by reroofing projects. This effort will help recycle them so they don't end up in landfills.

Green and getting greener - The King County Fleet Administration Division is always looking for ways to get greener, and the benefits are multiple. On top of saving money on operating costs, the experimentation involved helps develop new markets for greener vehicles, and helps develop best practices for other agencies.

ORCA making a 'big splash' - It's one card that aims to replace all the tickets, transfers, and various passes for seven regional transit agencies. Since it debuted last April, more than 100,000 ORCA cards are now in circulation. See what riders and businesses say about its usefulness.
