Another go-around with the snow
Narrator Says:
You could consider it the calm after the storm. Sunny temperatures and blue skies one day after King County saw a blanket of snow fall.
Only about an inch accumulated in many areas closer to Seattle, but as many as eight fell in outlying areas.
And for the second time this winter, we saw cars people had to abandon in the frigid conditions.
These two on NE 128th street in Redmond block one lane, and 12 streets away on 116th, it’s the same deal.
Evan Bagley is part of the King County crew in Redmond trying to make driving safe again after the storm.
King County Roads Worker Evan Bagley Says:
It started out as maybe it was going to be a problem that the weather man wasn’t right, or something like that, about a half inch of snow, and everybody says that’s it, but it wasn’t, everybody ventured out, and it came in real fast, that caught everybody by surprise.
Narrator Says:
But now that the sun has melted much of the snow and ice on the main streets, this is what’s left. A wet slush that’s perfectly safe to drive on now.
<<Sounds of driving in the slush>>
But local meteorologists are predicting tonight (Thursday) may be the coldest so far this winter, with temperatures dropping into the 20’s and maybe into the teens.
That means we’ll likely see more of those dangerous driving conditions.
King County Roads Worker Evan Bagley Says:
A lot of people just walk away, last night when it hit, it was really bad, people spun out, and all jammed up, I didn’t get to do anything for probably about three hours, cause I was just sitting in traffic and I couldn’t move either, it was not good.
Narrator Says:
The bottom line tonight in the county when the sun does go down is to use extreme caution if you do drive.
Or just avoid the icy conditions altogether by staying put, and expect the on-again, off-again ice to be with us for a few more days.
