<<Sounds of Blue Angels>>

Narrator Says:

Whether you’re into planes.

<<More sounds of Blue Angels>>

Narrator Says:

Or you don’t know the first thing about them, it really doesn’t matter.

The Blue Angels have been capturing the hearts of aviation enthusiasts and casual observers alike for more than 60 years now.

And every year when they come to perform at Seafair over Lake Washington, King County International Airport hosts the high-flying aeronautic acrobats.

And the fans are ready every year to greet them.

Seafair Air Show Committee Chairman Frank Sebastian Says:

The Blue Angels have been such a staple at Seafair for so many years, and you don't really realize their fan base until you see what's here at the airport, during the time they're here, or you look at the lake events, we have the seafair event that is on Lake Washington but it only takes one observation of what's on mercer island, or the I-90 bridge, on the shoreline as well as what's on the west side of the field here, of just how large their fan base is in the northwest.

Narrator Says:

Every year they show up, lining the fence on the outskirts of the airport.

Taking in the angels’ practice sessions with curiosity and enthusiasm, no matter what age they are.

This year’s sessions were as popular as ever.

Blue Angels Fan Anthony Long Says:

The Blue Angels they're quick and they do some pretty neat tricks, like the ones where they go sideways, and capture together like cross, and also like when they're practicing mostly, you can see them go over some people's houses, and stuff, so you can get like a close-up, close-up picture or something.

Blue Angels Fan Tom Mirante Says:

And so we'd run over to the bridge and watch 'em during the break of the race and they were always exciting, I just find this exciting coming down to the airport and watching the take-offs and landings those are pretty spectacular.

Blue Angels Fan John Roos Says:

It's just always an excitement, they're part of U.S. History, and to see them in our own back yard, the thrill of watching them take off and land.

Blue Angels Fan Brian Jacobsen Says:

Twice we've ridden our bicycles on to mercer island, the deck there and watched them from the bridge, and this time we decided to watch them take off. Oh it's just awesome, the noise and the power that come out of those things is just amazing.

Narrator Says:

The magic that the Angels seem to generate everywhere they go isn’t lost on seafair organizers either.

They say they see a mix of awe and excitement on the faces of fans at the airport when they’re practicing and on the lake when the team is performing.

Seafair Air Show Committee Chairman Frank Sebastian Says:

You see both, I mean from my perspective what I see a lot of times is people staring upwards with their mouth open, doing an 'ooh' 'ahh', you see a lot of salutes, a lot of cheers as the different maneuvers are executed.
