All the brawn, 2/3 the fuel Date: August 12, 2008 The King County Road Services Division monitors and repairs about 2,300 traffic signals in unincorporated parts of the county and contract cities. It does so using a hybrid utility trucks that saves 30-40 percent on diesel and therefore the greenhouse gas produced by that fuel. It also just received a second hybrid flat-bed tow truck. |

County donates PC's to worthwhile cause Date: May 30, 2007 They're computers King County no longer needs, but they end up fully functional all over the globe. The Global Technology Academy, made up of students from Garfield High School among a few others, takes the surplused county computers and refurbishes them, before traveling to places like Ghana, the Philippines, Turkey, and Tanzania to donate them to people who don't yet have computer technology. More hybrids on the way Date: November 16, 2006 They may do some heavy-duty work, but their emissions will be lighter than their ancestors'. The King County Department of Transportation has partnered with 13 other agencies to form the Northwest Hybrid Truck Consortium.
