RapidRide B Line

Coming to Bellevue and Redmond in 2011

Metro Transit, in partnership with the cities of Bellevue and Redmond, is planning to bring RapidRide bus service to the Eastside in fall 2011.

The RapidRide B Line will run between the Bellevue Transit Center and the downtown Redmond Transit Center via Crossroads and Overlake.

RapidRide service is being designed to keep people moving throughout the day in this heavily used transit corridor. Learn more about RapidRide

Connecting communities

The RapidRide B Line will give riders streamlined service to destinations along the route, including major employers, stores, medical and other services, and residential areas.

Destinations include:

  • Overlake Hospital
  • Neighborhoods along NE 8th Street
  • The Crossroads area
  • The Overlake area and Microsoft campuses
  • Neighborhoods along 148th Avenue NE north of NE 40th Street
  • Downtown Redmond

RapidRide also will stop at the Bellevue, Overlake, and Redmond transit centers, connecting with buses serving the Eastside, Seattle, south King County, Lynnwood, Everett and other places.

Public involvement

Metro is considering changes that might be made to regular bus routes near the B Line corridor when this RapidRide service begins. The changes would connect other bus routes with the B Line, improve bus service in the Bellevue-Redmond area, and reduce duplication of service. Metro has involved the community in this Bellevue-Redmond Transit Connections project.

Partners help buses go faster

Metro and the cities of Bellevue and Redmond are working together to help buses go faster through this corridor. This corridor will be improved with transit signal priority, a system in which traffic signals recognize an approaching bus and make green lights stay green longer or red lights switch to green faster.

This system will make RapidRide faster than current local bus routes. Since RapidRide will run more frequently all day long, most riders will spend less time waiting, reducing their total travel time.
