2007 Accomplishments

Stop announcements video

In the spring of 2007, ASAC in collaboration with Metro Transit and the transit operators’ union, Local 587, released a video on stop announcements for drivers. The video was used at Metro bases as part of the ADA base fairs.

Bus wraps

Over the summer and early fall, ASAC reviewed the bus wrap proposals. In September, they sent a letter to Councilmembers Larry Phillips and Reagan Dunn about the partial bus wraps proposal. They stated that the partial wrap proposal met their concerns about an adequate amount of clear window, optimal placement of the opening in the window and restoring more of the vehicle’s identity as a transit vehicle.

RapidRide

The committee sent a letter to Kevin Desmond, General Manager, Metro Transit on the proposed features of the new RapidRide buses. They commented on the seating configuration, seat coverings, seat height, stanchions, handholds, straps and windows as well as the wheelchair securement, maneuverability just inside the front door, and fare policy.

Fare increase

The Accessible Services Advisory Committee sent a letter to the King County Council about the proposed fare increase. ASAC recognized the need for a bus fare increase to bring the overall fares up to the level charged elsewhere in the region and to begin to address the increased operating costs that Metro is facing. However, the committee expressed concerns about the effect of the proposed fare increase on the seniors and disabled riders.
