Instructions for obtaining a badge

General aviation hangar/tie-down tenants

Our General Aviation team will send you an application. All applicants must complete an online airport security awareness course. We provide you with information on the course when you receive the application.

Email BFI.GA@kingcounty.gov to start the process.

All other applicants

Your organization or an organization at the airport that you're doing business with must sponsor your badge. Your authorized signatory will send you the badge application via DocuSign.

The application is as follows:

  1. Applicants complete their part of the application and fill in all required fields.
  2. The authorized signatory reviews the information provided by the applicant. They'll select the appropriate badge type based on business needs.
  3. The BFI training group reviews the badge request and enrolls the applicant in online courses.
  4. All applicants must complete the basic security course. More courses are assigned based on the badge requested.
  5. The BFI training group emails the applicant with login instructions for the online courses.

Lease Framework Working Group

We convened the group to review policy in our current lease framework. They also identified opportunities to make improvements.

From the group's charter:

"The Working Group will conduct a policy review of the current lease framework as well as identify and evaluate possible opportunities and alternatives to improve the leasing framework alignment with the Airport's Strategic Plan goals. The review will include, but will not be limited to, policies related to pricing and lease terms, exclusive rights, arbitration rights and procedures, investment credits and/or amortization of tenant investments, and assignment and transfer rights. These issues will be discussed over a series of meetings and identify alternatives, if applicable and feasible, in the form of potential policy or code changes."

Group members met 13 times between August 2015 and October 2016. They accomplished the following:

  • Considered a range of policy questions
  • Developed key findings from presentations and group discussions
  • Reached consensus on recommendations to improve future hangar and long-term leasing practices

Recommendations address the following topics:

  • Hangar waitlist
  • Hangar commercial rental rate
  • Monthly hangar pricing and appraisal process
  • Hangar vacancies
  • Long-term lease appraisal process
  • Long-term lease appraisal re-evaluation cycles and rent adjustment
  • Length of long-term leases
  • Long-term lease investment requirements
  • Long-term lease award
