Homeowners can now see the program’s doors and windows in action.
Sound Insulation Program completes display houseDec. 2009—Owners of homes eligible for improvements under King County International Airport’s Sound Insulation Program can now check out the doors and windows available through the program at the airport’s new display house. The 10-by-12-foot sample structure, created with funding from the Federal Aviation Administration, is housed in a building next door to the airport terminal. Its purpose is to give homeowners an opportunity to see and experience the products as they might appear in their own homes, and help them decide whether to participate in the program. The Sound Insulation Program began its pilot project in 2008 and completed improvements to 29 homes by early 2009. With lessons learned during the pilot phase, the program now has construction bids pending for 46 more homes, and construction in progress or completed pending final approval on another 33.
