Air show dazzles in spite of weather
The Blue Angels take off from Boeing Field in diamond formation. August 2010—For more than 60 years, the Boeing Air Show—with aircraft lifting off from KBFI—has been a highlight of Seattle’s five-week Seafair festival. This year, low clouds and drizzle failed to dampen the enjoyment. The U.S. Navy Blue Angels did their “flat” demonstration show, with choreographed formation flights and high-speed passes low over Lake Washington so they could be seen below the clouds. Other air show highlights included aerobatic flyers Sean Tucker, Tim Weber, and John Klatt, as well as two “cats”—the F6F-3 Tigercat and the F8F-2 Bearcat—from the Kilo-6 Historic Flight Museum at Paine Field. KBFI tenant Clay Lacy flew in the air show in a special Lear 24 “Smoker” aircraft, as did the brand-new Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the U.S. Coast Guard, a VFA-122 Super Hornet (F/A18F), and an F/A-18G “Growler.” News home
