Wheel Options

Wheel Options is a commuter promotion that is scheduled two weeks in March and October every year.  It is a cooperative statewide promotion developed by the Washington State Rideshare Organization (WSRO) Promotions Advisory Committee.  Its purpose is to promote alternatives to drive-alone commuting throughout Washington and to provide Employee Transportation Coordinators (ETCs) eye-catching and easy-to-use promotion tools.

ETCs are sent Wheel Options materials prior to each promotion.  They are encouraged to post Wheel Options posters around their worksite and forward email messages to employees to encourage participation.  Some ETCs hold company-specific prize drawings to ensure a Wheel Options winner from the company.

To be eligible for the prize drawing, employee participation must be entered online. There are now three ways this can be done:

  1. Employees record their commute trips at www.wheeloptions.org. By using the ETC Login on the Wheel Options site, ETCs may access, view and manage their employee participation as well as draw prize winners. All ETCs in King County should log in with their email address and the following password: kingcounty Click here for instructions on how to use the ETC tools
  2. Employees record commute trips on the paper entry form distributed by their ETC (the original is in the packet of materials mailed to ETCs). The ETC must then enter employee commute data from the paper forms into the Wheel Options bulk entry form online.
  3. New for fall 2010 – Employees can log commutes at the enhanced RideshareOnline.com calendar. All employee commute trips entered in the RideshareOnline.com calendar in King County will be automatically entered into the Wheel Options promotion. If you are already using RideshareOnline.com to track employee commutes, you need not do anything more. To promote this option to employees, use this link: www.RideshareOnline.com/wheeloptions.

Current prizes and prize winners are listed on the Wheel Options website.

Easy Steps to a successful Wheel Options Promotion:

  1. Post the Wheel Options posters
  2. Check your worksite listing and your ETC login on the Wheel Options website; request that your worksite be renamed on the Wheel Options website if you don't think your employees will search for that name
  3. Forward Wheel Options emails to your employees; help employees try riding the bus or form new carpools
  4. Check your employee participation; draw your own winners if you have a company-specific prize
  5. Distribute prizes to winners and coupons to all participants (if applicable)
  6. Send list of prize winners to all employees and announce results of promotion to management.
