Out-of-School Programs

Out-of-School programs assist young people ages 16 to 21 who have dropped out of high school before graduating get re-engaged with education, career planning, community and technical college or apprenticeships and work. To accomplish this, we help young people address any barriers to their success in education and work. These could be issues like criminal justice involvement, homelessness, transition out of foster care, drug and alcohol or mental health issues, transportation, basic skills issues and lack of a high school diploma or GED.

Programs

Our Out-of-School services are provided through three main programs:

  • Community College Based Learning Centers - Provides hands-on learning through credit recovery, school re-entry, high school completion or a GED option. The goal of these services is to improve student achievement in key competencies. They also help students gain skills for success in both education and work.

  • King County YouthSource - A youth one-stop center located at WorkSource Renton, where programs focus on education, employment, and leadership development. They also provide connections to youth programs, community resources for life stabilization, job readiness and placement services, and comprehensive case management.

Many of our YouthSource programs also build youth's skills for particular careers such as information technology, construction trades, aviation technology and manufacturing, and hazardous waste disposal.

  • Out-of-School Youth Consortium - A network of ten sites provide young persons with education, training, employment services, and case management. These sites are located at high schools, community colleges, and other locations throughout King County. King County's Work Training program provides staff for seven of these sites.
