King County Jobs Initiative - Services for Job Seekers

The King County Jobs Initiative (KCJI) provides job training, job placement, and supportive services free-of-charge to low-income adults involved in the criminal justice system.

Services are provided by organizations with extensive experience in job training. Each client is assigned an Account Executive to support and guide them through the employment process. They work with the same person from enrollment, through training, and until the client has worked on their new job for one year.

Job placements are in full-time jobs paying, on average, over $11 per hour and most have benefits.

Training Opportunities

We enroll clients in a variety of training opportunities with different start dates and locations. Training generally lasts no more than 12 weeks. We will also help clients with transportation to get to training and work, child care, and emergency support services as needed.

Some of the areas in which workers are trained include:

  • Airport related jobs
  • Construction
  • Electronic assembly
  • Hazardous materials technician
  • Manufacturing
  • Office occupations
  • Warehouse

The KCJI also provides an intensive four-day Job Readiness Training for all participants. This training helps participants understand and prepare for their transition from training into employment.

Eligibility

At the present time, to be eligible for the King County Jobs Initiative program individuals must:

  • Be currently or previously involved in the criminal justice system. You may be referred to KCJI by your case manager from the King County Community Corrections Alternative Program (CCAP) or from the Department of Corrections.
