Housing Finance FAQs

Can I apply as an individual for a private housing grant or loan from the Housing Finance Program?
No, the Housing Finance Program is only available to non-profit organizations with a tax exempt designation from the IRS, for-profit housing developers, housing authorities or local governments who have the capacity to enter into a contractual agreement to develop, operate and maintain an affordable housing project for a period of up to 50 years.

Can I apply for a Section 8 rental housing subsidy or public housing from the Housing Finance Program?

No, the local public housing authorities are the only entities that are authorized by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to administer those subsidies and programs. The Housing Finance Program does not provide any assistance to the public to find available units of housing. However, if you are looking for housing, please visit the Resources Section of our Web site by clicking here.

Can the Housing Finance Program provide referrals to a household or individual who is on the brink of losing their housing?
The Housing Finance Program does not provide any assistance to the public to find available units of housing. However, if you are looking for housing, please visit the Resources Section by clicking here.

As a private property owner, would I be able to get a grant or a loan to repair the home that I own.
No, the Housing Finance Program does not provide funding for individual renters or home owners. The Housing and Community Development Program has a Housing Repair Program that provides individual grants and loans to home owners. Click here to go to the Housing Repair Program.

Can your program help with my with moving or relocation costs to move to a new address?

No, we do not have a program to assist individual households in King County with relocation costs. If a tenant lives in a building that we have funded to be purchased, rehabilitated and maintained as affordable housing, and the tenant is required to move because of the housing project we funded, the tenant may be eligible for relocation assistance through the Housing Finance Program.
