BoardsFive citizen advisory boards play an important role in the development of Veterans and Community Services programs, services, funding and advocacy. Board members are clients, family members of clients, advocates and residents of King County who volunteer their time, energy and expertise to make our programs better. Recruitment is open for several of these boards. The Advisory Council on Aging and Disability Services advises the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) on issues affecting older people and adults with disabilities. The Council is comprised of 27 members, nine each appointed by the City of Seattle, King County, and United Way of King County. King County appointees are named by the executive and confirmed by the county council to two-year terms. The county attempts to appoint people to represent King County's unincorporated areas - the primary service area for county-funded aging services. One of two boards that monitors and reviews expenditures of the Veterans and Human Services Levy passed by King County voters in 2005. This board specifically oversees those funds dedicated for regional health and human services. The board is comprised of 12 members, one for each council district and three at-large members selected by the county executive; all are appointed by the county executive and confirmed by the county council. This board specifically oversees those funds dedicated for services to assist veterans, military personnel and their families. The board is comprised of 12 members, one for each council district and three at-large members selected by the county executive; all are appointed by the county executive and confirmed by the county council. The King County Veterans' Advisory Board makes recommendations on programs and services to assist and support veterans and their families. The board is comprised of 17 members plus two alternates who are elected to two-year terms by the voting membership at the Annual Meeting held in February. Nominees are selected by the federally recognized veteran's organizations of King County (e.g. Vietnam Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans). Board members are not appointed by the King County executive and are not subject to King County Council confirmation. The King County Women's Advisory Board makes recommendations on programs and services to meet the needs, rights and well-being of women. The board is comprised of 15 individuals: two nominated by the King County Executive to serve as at-large members; nine members selected by the county council members to represent each council district, and four additional at-large members selected by council members. The executive submits all nominations to the council for confirmation.
