2010 Executive Proposed Budget

King County Executive Kurt Triplett presented his 2010 Executive Proposed Budget to the Metropolitan King County Council and the public on Monday, Sept. 28, 2009.  Addressing the county's continuing funding crisis, including a $56.4 million shortfall, the Executive's budget includes cuts to human services, as well as to other areas of county services supported by the county's General Fund.

The Executive Proposed 2010 Budget eliminates all county General Fund dollars from the human services portion of the budget for the Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS), including the Mental Health Fund, the Substance Abuse Fund, and the Children and Family Services (CFS) Fund.  It is the CFS Fund that provides support to the range of community agencies and community services provided through the Community Services Division (CSD).  A picture of the funding changes to human services can be seen by comparing the following two documents:

With the loss of General Funds, the CSD has a new 2010 CFS Proposed Spending Plan that shows revenues and expenditures under the 2010 Executive Proposed Budget.  The reductions follow the published reduction plan developed by CSD in 2008 that was widely shared with the human services community, showing how reductions would be taken over a three-year period.  For information on the revised spending and contracting plan, please see the following two documents:

The King County Council will undertake a months-long process to finalize a budget in late November.  For more information on the Council's budget process, including the schedule for public meetings, click here.
